Ansel Packer is set to be executed in twelve hours, and he is aware of the crimes he has committed. However, it is the women that Ansel’s crimes affected the most who tell his story: his mother, Lavender; Hazel, Ansel’s sister-in-law; and Saffy, the homicide detective.

Notes on an Execution was a solid one-sit read. The moments that were told from Ansel’s point of view were written in a way that made you feel Ansel’s impending doom. It was woven together and explored themes of grief and loss, and the lingering trauma of violent crime has all the way up to an execution date.
