The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict
It begins with a letter – a letter that contains the utmost important answer: where is Mrs. Christie? And now with the letter gone, along with its writer, everyone looks to Archibald Christie, the estranged husband of the mystery genius, Agatha Christie.
Agatha Christie never intended to marry her husband, as she was promised to Reggie Charles, a family friend who had gone to war. But she could not resist Archie’s charm and strong desire to make her his. Agatha gave him her whole life while finding moments to write and care for their daughter, only for her to vanish. But why? What was the point of it all? And will she return?
I enjoyed everything about this story. Think Gone Girl meets Agatha Christie.
But it’s so much more than that. It’s the story of a young woman’s evolution into the person she needs to be for her. The changes a woman makes, not because it’s what her husband wants, but because it’s what’s best for her. Also, narcissism and overcoming the abuse from that. The recovery and reinvention a person has to do to recover what’s left of their former selves but still maintaining what they’ve learned.
I will be reading more from Marie Benedict. Check out some of the Spotify podcast discussions on this book!
