Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie

Rating: 4 out of 5.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A boastful teenager announces during the preparations for a Halloween party that she had once witnessed a murder, but kids say silly things to get attention. Right? Sure, but those same kids don’t usually end up dead only moments later. Not unless a killer who didn’t want the truth to get out was at that party. This was a job for Hercule Poirot.

For the Halloween season, I found this to be the perfect read as it was quirky and intelligent and I enjoyed the banter between the exuberant Mrs. Oliver, a mystery author who attends the party in which the murder takes place, and the famous Detective Hercule Poirot. It was very clear to me the character Ariadne Oliver bore a resemblance to Christie, herself. I admire her for writing herself into her book just to banter with her main characters. The dialogue was witty and made me laugh out loud at points. A classic whodunnit that has many layers, twists, and turns. I finished it in one sitting and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted a leisurely read for an autumn afternoon with some pumpkin spice.
