56 Days by Catherine Ryan Howard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Starting a new relationship at the start of the coronavirus pandemic was not ideal for Dubliners, Ciara and Oliver. But when they bumped into each other at the supermarket, their chemistry was undeniable, and they decided to bunker down together for the mandatory lockdown. Ciara is ready to have a relationship that isn’t being judged by her family, and Oliver is ready to have an emotionally honest connection. The only issue is – no one knew this. They kept it a secret. Now one of them is dead. Can detectives figure out what may have led to the most perfect crime?

I’ve been waiting for Pandemic fiction to spring forth, and here it is. Catherine Ryan Howard captured the essence of the lockdown perfectly while adding bits of humor that can now be found in the situation. Including the toilet paper hoarding and other themes of the pandemic. I miss the lack of traffic – that was nice. I enjoyed the banter and the charisma between the characters Oliver and Ciara. What I love about this murder mystery story is that it has layers – like an onion. It’s an ogre of a mystery. What I love about Catherine Ryan Howard’s book is that they give a peak into Ireland, as she is an Irish writer. I felt like I was taken away to another place in her book and I enjoyed every second of it.
