I got the itch to write when I was crawling into bed last night. I ignored the urge and went to sleep. Now, I have finished with some of my busy work. and I am finally relaxed enough that I can focus and write…. I hope that whatever I thought of last night comes back to mind.

I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of working on art for the story rather than the actual story writing. And while that’s not a bad thing…I need to write.

I was suggested to be both the author and the illustrator. This suggestion severely underestimated how much I would latch onto the art aspect of it. But art is something I’ve always been capable of losing myself in. The phrase starving artist has another meaning. It means ‘I’ve focused on this one portrait for twelve hours. Now I am shaking because I didn’t eat. Hyperfocus doesn’t even start to describe it.

I am trying to come up with a schedule. But alas, the ADHD goblin that lives inside my brain abides by no schedule. Yesterday I just worked on the portrait of Serlanos Gyanstazi, the devil of Northside, my big bad. I’ve been struggling to get him right. I don’t want him to be too creepy, but also not too handsome that we forget about our dear boy Llewyn <3

These were some of the earlier drawings of Serlanos. The hand-drawn one in the center reminds me of Beavis and Butthead mixed with Mr. Burns from The Simpsons. Now he’s looking more like I imagined him. Definitely has a Madds Mickelsen vibe to him.

I’ve also made some headway with Llewyn. He is such a complex character that I’ve drawn him over and over again.

Now Llewyn is looking more like this…which is a huge improvement in my opinion.

In my art, I don’t like the normal bookish cartoon style. I also don’t like the idea of full realism. I would probably describe my style as a blend of the two.

I hope to get a few chapters out here today.

and maybe I will have a little sneak peek at what is lurking in freshly written pages.
