Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I would summarize my overall take on this delicious novel as “A vicious capture of what it’s like to experience change, heal, and move on while retracing your roots.”
A refreshing Halloween return-home story with romance elements and some wolfish antics.
Rory Morris returns home to aid her pregnant twin sister, Scarlett, until the birth – she does not plan on staying – that is, until she runs into Ian, an almost-almost flame from high school, and her mischievous girlfriend Mia, reminding her of everything she’s missed out since she left for the big city. That wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was getting attacked by some rabid beast on the road.
The dialogue in this novel was very realistic, and I enjoyed the banter between Ian and Rory; even some moments with her sister were entertaining and insightful. It didn’t feel forced, and at times, I felt the author was drawing from her own life, which helped me connect more deeply with the characters. I thought, “This feels too real to be fiction.”
Bravo!
Her visceral descriptions will haunt you and mesmerize you.
I enjoyed how Harrison intertwined all the mishaps of returning home and confronting childhood trauma. This is a real strength in her skills as a writer. I will most definitely be reading more of Rachel Harrison. I enjoyed Such Sharp Teeth; it was a great way to start my spooky reading season.

I have decided to take a step away from the pandemic mystery thriller for now, as lately it has been affecting my mental state, and my mind is more focused on vampires. Last night I was awake with thoughts about where this new story is going, and despite being almost finished with the pandemic thriller,…
