Alright, my eyes have had time to adjust and now I can finally put into words what my friend and I just watched.
Longlegs, the highly anticipated best serial killer horror film hit theaters early July and has been the hype since viewers reported that the movie had apparently been so terrifying and left them feeling ‘disturbed’.
Am I disturbed after watching this film? No. (Despite what others might think)
In fact, I don’t think I’ve been more impressed by a serial killer horror film in a long time. It’s been an hour since I left and the adrenaline is still kicking, but at a reasonable rate. We will see about the sleep later, because I don’t think I’ve been creeped out by Nicholas Cage like that. Ever.
Neon has been doing some impressive things lately, and one thing I just loved about Longlegs how easily the camera work and lighting captured that creepy ambiance of a small town haunted by a serial killer, building the turmoil. The creativity in using heart beats and silence sounds created a distortion and buzz in my head that that I can’t seem to shake, but crave more of.
The first glimpse of Longlegs himself will make you rethink sharing a milkshake with the Terrifier.
Rumor is the inspiration for the appearance of Longlegs came from Nicholas Cage’s late mother. Which I think is what made Longlegs so creepy, paired with the singsong candor. According to Forbes, Cage had incorporated much of his late mother’s characteristics as a tribute to her posthumously.
Yeah, I won’t be able to forget that for awhile.
Summary Review
Overall, I enjoyed the film and would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind a little occult horror with Nicholas Cage. He gave one hell of a performance. The film deserves it’s praise.
