Two of the hottest cases are trending once more, thanks to Peacock exclusives, and we get an inside look at a serial killer’s family and the effects of crime on the offender’s loved ones, and how someone like Bryan Kohlberger could kill four students he had no connection with.
The Gilgo Beach Killer
As the evidence stacks against him, Rex Heuerman faces charges for the disappearances in the area near his residence that earned him the title of Gilgo Beach Killer – and his family is paying the price for it.

Little to her knowledge, Asa Ellerup believed she had it all. Two wonderful children with her longtime husband Rex Heuermann, who was a well known architect in the Gilgo Beach Area.
But the friendly family man was only a facade. Heuerman’s victims saw a very vicious side to the father and husband. Despite what the news is saying about her husband, Asa and their two children are sticking by Rex Heuermann’s side. With frequent calls to the facility housing Rex until trial, Asa still gives her full support.
“I do not believe my husband did this.”

If you’re like me and are not up to speed on the Gilgo Beach Killer story, check out Robert Kolker’s Lost Girls, and while you’re at it, give the doc on Peacock a go!

New York Times Bestseller Robert Kolker investigates the disappearances of Shannan Gilbert, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Megan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello whom all went missing in Long Island. Theses cases remained unsolved until recent events brought the case to the surface.
The Idaho Student Murders
Serial killers like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy paved the way for vicious killers like Kohberger to go on vicious killing sprees and be virtually untraceable in this advanced age of technology.

In the middle of the night in November 2022, Kohberger snuck into the residence on King Road and unleashed a terror that haunts Moscow today.
That night, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin lost their lives. The Idaho Student murders is a case that has been at the forefront of the country’s mind since it first broke the news in 2022.
Now, three years later, Idaho sits in silence as the residents await the sentence of the monster that changed the small college town of Moscow, Idaho. Despite receiving a life sentence without parole, many are still left with the following questions: Why were five people targeted? What was the connection between Kohberger and the four students he brutally attacked?
While a Kohberger is exactly where he should be (I hear Jesperson wants to be cellmates!), it doesn’t bring back Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. It doesn’t fix the damage that has been done. But we can only hope that the families of the victims can heal and the town of Moscow can heal, and we can somehow learn from this (I don’t know what exactly because this is crazy, how could anyone anticipate this?).
We now know that the modern serial killer is much more dangerous and skilled than those of thirty to forty years ago. With the aid of technology, killers can hide in plain sight just as much as authorities can track them down.
It’s a cruel aspect of human nature to want to blame the victim or the situation surrounding the crime to find blame that doesn’t always lie with the offender. A reason for which this happened other than the obvious. The one committing the crime. And sometimes there is no good excuse other than Bryan Kohberger is a monster and found a target and nearly got away with the perfect crime. The only person to blame for or to explain why this horrible crime happened is Bryan Kohberger.
